Over this last semester, we have been hearing from our teachers in the IA to guide our own learning. I wasn’t really sure of what that meant until I saw one of my classmates POL presentation that made me realize the importance of it.
How can you learn or get better at something if there is no will from you to improve. With this I mean, how can a person learn if you are being obligated to learn.
The IA focuses on making their students responsible for their own learning. We cant have a culture of excellence if we don’t trust the student with the work.
For example when assigning us a book, we have the freedom to critic whether reading the book would be useful or not. For example when reading Give and Take, as a class we decided that this specific book would not benefit our learning. This was a clear example of how students care about their learning and try to improve it.
“ILL NEVER BE PERFECT, BUT I WILL BE BETTER”
To guide your own learning is to be self-motivated. Not every student is perfect. In fact perfect is not enough, there is always room for improvement. That is why in todays world we need student that can identify their weak spots and and self motivated to improve.
