Undertaking new challenges
I enjoy being part of things that I love doing. This is why my CAS will be an excelent way to showcase this.
We had to learn from our history and then we had to transmit that knowledge to other kids. This made it very challenging specially since we needed to make them be on task. Very important because although we come from totally different backgrounds, we still need to be united by our history. At the end we are all Peruvians and we need to embrace our culture.
Planned and initiated activities
After being president of the OPP club for so long, I consider that I have sufficient leadership skills to start a CAS project.Very important because although we come from totally different backgrounds, we still need to be united by our history. At the end we are all Peruvians and we need to embrace our culture. We were creative when coordinating with the school to plan their visit to the museum as we needed to plan their whole experience. We had to create their itinerary and the activities, giving them the power to learn more about local culture.
Working collaboratively with others
I can easily collaborate with others because I consider myself open minded. Showing perseverance and commitment
At a minimum, this implies attending regularly and accepting a share of the responsibility for dealing with problems that arise in the course of activities. Ive started volunteering with the Fugaz team and I have enjoyed very much this first experience. Fugaz is an organisation which has given chances to succeed to local people from Callao. This is a very dangerous city and it has been declared in state of emergency. This is why it is important to help future generations so they do not fall in hands of the delinquency.
Engaged with issues of global importance
Want to do something to mitigate the effects of poverty. We volunteered for a total of 4 days May 28, 29 and June 1 and 4 of the present year. Each day we coordinated a series of visits from the local school for us to explain them a little bit of the local pre Incan cultures expositions in the museum. We received prior training from museum members before volunteering.
Consideration of ethical implications

Today was a great day of volunteering. I was in charge of organizing a soccer match with the kids that attended todays session. This first visit has had a profund impact in me because I had the option to make connections with the people involved. I have realized this kids day to day strugles, this is why I have understood the meaning of being present in their lifes. I hope that I will get to see more interactions with them.
They all have opened up with us and many of them have given us small gifts, which was very touching especially considering that they come from unprivileged backgrounds. I am so happy that I took this initiative and I plan on continuing this solidly.

I have learned the importance that a simple interaction can make in others life. Volunteerring should not be something that you are obligated on doing, rather something that really emerges from yourself. This is the difference if you want to do something meaningfull in your volunteiring. You should be willing to go the extra mile just to make humanity a better place.

This was the first service project where I actually bonded with the people in the community. It was not just going in the community to do something, it was actually actually building relationship with the people in the place. Since we finished right on time we had an extra hours to play a match with the little kids. I consider that priceless. Yesterday we had an amazing Bridges experience in which we visited the Parque de las Leyendas zoo in the district of San Miguel with kids from a public school in Comas. We had a wonderful experience in the Zoo as we got to play with them in the park attractions and explain to them the local animal population. It was really pleasant to have tour around the simulation of the three Peruvian regions. For me this had a very beautiful meaning because at the end of the day despite our cultural differences we are all Peruvians and we should be proud of being so. |
BRIDGES
(Creativity) 3/5/16
Last Saturday I went to the San Juan de Miraflores to help build stairs with the bridges club. To be honest I was feeling really excited because this was the first time I was going with bridges. Ive been to that district before with Techo but the experience with Bridges was similar. What I really like about this service projects is that we connect or how the people in bridges call it to make bridges with the local population. We got there and immediately where separated into smaller teams. I was placed in the group in charge of mixing the materials to make the cement. The task was really hard, in fact this was the first time that I was doing a task like this. We had to take the soil, mix it with the cement and then add water to make the mix work. It lasted 30 minutes to complete the mix and another 30 to send the cement up the mountain to finish constructing the stairs. We were a small group of 5 and I found it really exhausting completing this kind of job but the desire to keep helping motivated me to keep working. There where some times in where the Bridges personal had push me forward but most of the time I was working really hard because I believed on what I was working on. (Service) 4/9/15
This week I went to Pamplona Alta in San Juan de Miraflores. We had an amazing time building time building stairs for the inhabitants of the community so they could reach the upper houses in the mountain. I was the man in charge of placing the cement in the structures as well as leveling the land. I felt really proud at the end of the day. Even though we were relatively as small group, I consider that we got a lot of progress done. We finished nivelizing the terrain as well as cementing half of the stair route. This is probably the last Bridges trip of the semester but I am looking forward for the following year. |
